Pretty, unspoilt and romantic - Ekincik is a place to recharge.
Between the better known towns of Marmaris and Dalyan on the Turkish Riviera is Ekincik - one of this coastline’s best kept secrets and referred to in the area as ‘earth’s paradise’. This pine- covered bay, also known as Kurkculer Bay, envelops the sense of romantic summers at sea amongst the natural beauty of the East Mediterranean.

The bay itself is enclosed by forest covered hills with a long beach running along its coast - it’s quiet, unspoilt by development and like much of this part of Turkey, best enjoyed by yacht. This isn’t the place to go to enjoy a buzzing nightlife ashore but as somewhere to stop, relax and base yourself for a few days whilst exploring areas nearby, Ekincik is a fantastic spot.

One of the most important places to see when chartering a yacht around the waters of Ekincik are the ancient ruins of Kaunos. Dating back to 400 BC, this UNESCO World Heritage Site can be found a few kilometres west of Dalyan. Legend has it that the city was founded by King Kaunos, grandson of Apollo and quickly became a central harbour for trading boats. Today still stands a magnificent, well-preserved amphitheatre and remnants of the acropolis perched on top of a hill as well as a incredible Roman bath and ancient church. An afternoon here will let you step back in time amongst some amazing scenery.

If you want to step back in time in a different way then another nearby gem is Sultaniye Kaplıcaları (Sultaniye Thermal Waters) which are around 12km from Ekincik. The waters in the springs here are said to hold healing properties and visitors are welcomed ashore to relax in the mud baths in the heat of the sun before washing off in the warm waters of the sulphur pools. Or if you’re looking for something more active try rafting on the Dalaman River or taking one of the toys on board your charter yacht out on the turquoise waters.
